East Coast Mainline - York Station Cycle Access
The project included installing two new cycle ramps into the station, one to the north and one to the south. Works required various approvals including landlord’s consent and station change. The northern access was adjacent to running lines and required East Coast’s lease to be amended with agreement from Network Rail. Initial survey works to establish services indicated, what turned out to be, old compressed air lines for points, which needed to be traced and identified before works could begin.
Survey works and initial site works to erect temporary fences were undertaken in ‘live’ conditions with all method statements and risk assessment being agreed and monitored by Network Rail.
Close liaison with York City Council was also undertaken with regard to the adjacent conservation area, tree felling and cycling facilities to tie in with its Cycling City status.
