Liverpool Central Library PFI Project
The Central Library is located within the designated Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City World Heritage Site and the city’s Cultural Quarter. The Central Library and Archive has been developed on its current site over the last 150 years and now comprises a complex of several interlinked buildings, the majority of which are listed Grade II*.
AA Projects was appointed to help deliver an extensive new scheme at the library. The Grade II* historic library buildings have been refurbished as part of the project and a new library and archive has been built behind the original William Brown façade. The new facility includes the Liverpool Record Office, housing 14km of shelving for archives and artifacts from the past 800 years and includes a new roof terrace which features a 170m2 glass dome and boasts magnificent views across the cityscape.
