Drees & Sommer UK are proud to announce we have reached handover of The Maples, Westhead Ave, Kirkby to client Torus. The development helps to meet the local need for Extra Care accommodation, as identified in Knowsley Council’s Extra Care strategy. The site also includes a mix of affordable housing. We worked with developers Lane End on the Paddock Johnson design and acted as Employer’s Agent and Principal Designer on the scheme.

The extra care element, the Maples provides much needed homes for people aged over 55 and is housed in a three-storey building containing 100 one and two-bedroom apartments. It also includes state of the art facilities for residents such as a courtyard, salon, café and reminiscence pods, designed to stimulate memories or past experiences. This is bordered by 48 homes, 16 flats and six bungalows, which will be available for affordable rent and rent-to-buy. The 16 flats are split across three two-storey buildings and cover a mix of high-dependency and low-dependency accommodation.

The Maples, Westhead Avenue has been shortlisted for a number of awards including RICS Social Impact Award 2020, North West Regional Construction Awards and the Local Authority Building Controls Awards.
