Drees & Sommer has delivered a number of new build schools on the island of Anglesey including an £8m Special Education Need (SEN) school and a £6m primary.

This new SEN School in Llangefni caters for 3 – 19-year-old pupils and provides modern learning facilities including the provision of new classrooms, specialist teaching areas, sensory rooms, a hydrotherapy pool and multi-purpose hall.

The project has been designed to achieve BREEAM Excellent status and the new school will be an energy efficient building constructed with a SIPS timber frame and incorporating photo voltaic panels, a biomass heating system, solar hot water, low water demand facilities, rainwater harvesting, passivents and sedum green roofing.

Our dedication to understanding the client’s goals and drivers meant that our expert team were well placed to support Anglesey County Council to see this project through to completion. This state-of-the-art SEN school will enable pupils to continue receiving the support they need.

On the back of the success of Ysgol y Bont, we were appointed to deliver a £6m project at Ysgol Santes Dwynwen Primary School in Newborough, Anglesey.

The new 2,000m2 single form entry primary school caters for 4 to 11-year-old pupils and provides modern teaching accommodation, community rooms, kitchen, hall, welfare facilities, staff rooms, storage facilities and office / administration accommodation. The new primary school will be the amalgamation of several older smaller primary schools within the local area providing a new flagship facility.

Pupils can also enjoy a flexible learning environment with several outdoor teaching spaces. In addition, the project included the provision of a MUGA, sports field, car parking and highway alterations. The project was designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status. It is an energy-efficient building constructed with a SIPS timber frame and incorporating photovoltaic panels, solar hot water, low water demand facilities, rainwater harvesting and passivents.
