Mowden Hall is a Grade II Listed Residence that has been converted into Marchbank Free School. Drees & Sommer helped The Education Village Academies Trust obtain Condition Improvement Funding to repair deteriorated windows, roof coverings, rainwater goods and terracotta details to the elevations.

The deterioration of the building fabric over time had left parts of the building in disrepair and susceptible to damage from weather conditions. Drees & Sommer were tasked with designing and procuring the repair works to protect the building whilst remaining sympathetic to the historic character of the building.

The works were extensive, and the programme constraints meant that the works needed to be completed in part during term time for an SEMH School. We liaised with the local conservation officer to ensure that the repair methods employed for the schemes were appropriate. Alongside CIF funding support, Drees & Sommer provided Lead Design, Contract Administration and Principal Designer Services.

We also engaged with specialist terracotta suppliers to create bespoke moldings and details for deteriorated elevations and balconies. Through close liaison with the school the project goals were achieved, and the school were very happy with the outcome.
