Birmingham Dental Hospital

We have supported Prime through a number of key development areas, including a programme of new primary care centres across Staffordshire and a £74m specialist hospital facility at Queen Elisabeth Hospital. Birmingham Dental Hospital, home to the University of Birmingham's School of Dentistry, is one of only 10 dental hospitals in England, first integrated, stand-alone dental hospital and dental school in the UK for almost 40 years.

The Dental Hospital provides a unique range of dental services for the people of West Midlands and further afield. It is an integral part of the University of Birmingham, School of Dentistry and is there to support undergraduate and postgraduate dental education. Service provision includes education and research form key components, with consultant-led dental specialties providing treatment for around 115,000 attendances each year, together with undergraduate and postgraduate training for dental students, dental nurses, dental hygienists and therapists.

We were appointed by Birmingham and Solihull LIFT as Employer’s Representative (project, cost management and employer’s agent) towards the development of the 1.23-hectare (3.05-acre) site comprising a new four-storey dental hospital and school of dentistry. Totalling 15,465m2, it houses a range of services for the public including walk-in emergency dental care, restorative, oral surgery, oral medicine, and orthodontics and paediatric dentistry.

Our team spent considerable time planning the project to ensure success and implemented a number of innovations to improve project efficiency and help guarantee a successful project outcome. We provided close quarters project monitoring, and adopted a number of technologies including 4Projects and SnagR to see the scheme successfully delivered.
