AA Projects has provided a wide range of professional services to the University of Liverpool since 2004, delivering in excess of 50 projects. Initially we were appointed to provide surveying and full professional consultancy services on small scale maintenance and refurbishment schemes. Our role has grown over the years to provide feasibility and delivery on successive estates masterplans, facilities strategies, and carbon management plans. We have also been entrusted to deliver several major capital projects.
Notable schemes include Senate House and Sydney Jones Library refurbishments; the new £28m build School of Environmental Sciences; and the new £30m School of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Computer Science. We also delivered a five phase £10.5m refurbishment of the Sherrington Science Hub, including the design and delivery of wet labs where we promoted durable and easy cleaning floor specifications. We have supported the university through the creation of specifications and guidance for all capital programme schemes, capturing whole life cost and durability considerations.
Many of the schemes have involved the design and implementation of works to historic and listed properties, with parts of the campus situated within conservation areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Through this we established strong relationships with the city council’s conservation officers, and helped align the strategic goals of the university with the local authority.
Central to our consultancy offer has been to help the University decarbonise its estate. We have obtained Salix funding for a number of estate wide improvements, and undertaken feasibility exercises to support the installation of wind turbines, anaerobic digestion plants and photovoltaic installations, as well as the delivery of each viable scheme.
