University of Worcester - International Inclusive Cricket and Education Centre

Drees & Sommer have been appointed to provide cost consultancy services on the University of Worcester’s planned new International Inclusive Cricket and Education Centre. The Centre which has been designed in close consultation with the England and Wales Cricket Board, would provide a national home for all forms of disability cricket as well as outstanding net and practice facilities for local cricket loving youngsters in particular as well as male and female cricketers of all abilities.

It is part of the University’s expansion of its Severn Campus, which over the next five years will include new facilities for medicine, health and wellbeing. The development, if approved by the local planning authority, is expecting to achieve an EPC A sustainability rating, with PV array on the roof and the use of low or zero carbon technologies throughout the building.

The new centre would complement the award-winning University of Worcester Arena, which was the venue for the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Tournament (Men’s and Women’s) and is the first indoor sports facility in the UK purpose designed to include the wheelchair athlete.

As with the University’s other facilities, the campus would be available to the local community on an organised basis. There would also be special facilities designed in to promote exercise as part of supervised rehabilitation programmes which are typically needed following some episodes of heart attack, stroke and physical injury.
