AA Projects has been actively involved in the Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP). Within Phase 1, we were appointed as Independent Certifiers to deliver 20 new schools under PFI contracts within the Midlands and North West regions
Phase two of the programme (PSBP2) involves the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) undertaking rebuilding works to 277 schools and academies across England with a programme value of around £2 billion. The ESFA will deliver most of these projects using central procurement using their frameworks, however there is also an agreed ‘local delivery model’, which gives Local Authorities and academies the opportunity to procure and deliver their projects, subject to agreement with the ESFA. This will particularly benefit academies who can demonstrate that they have the experience and professional support to deliver their agreed project.
AA Projects is an SME consultancy that has extensive experience within the education sector, and can support schools and academies through the PSBP2 process, providing independent advice to make sure that the final solution meets expectations and needs. We have in-depth knowledge of the design guidance and space standards that are being used for the programme, enabling us to interpret and challenge the design options being developed.
AA Projects has been leading the local delivery on a number of projects, with the agreement of the ESFA. We are able to provide academies and local authorities with strategic and project management, cost consultancy and health and safety services, and can recommend design consultants to complete the team. This enables us to deliver an effective one-stop-shop for the procurement and delivery of your PSBP2 project.
ESFA Central Delivery
AA Projects is well placed to provide independent advice to Local Authorities and academies in the scoping and feasibility stages of the programme, as we have direct experience of working with schools and academies in this role. Specifically, we have been advising academies through the bidding process and supporting them through the initial engagement and feasibility studies and through the development of their business case. We are able to provide experienced advisors who have a full understanding of the space standards, accommodation schedules and the PSBP.
Our advisors can:
- Provide high quality independent advice
- Challenge design solutions to achieve your objectives
- Develop accommodation schedules
- Support schools in meetings with the ESFA consultants and contractors prior to contract
- Provide independent site quality inspections
"AA Projects has supported us throughout the complex process of developing our new PFI Academy and have provided us with the expertise to challenge the process and push the boundaries. They were instrumental in us achieving our objective of bringing the Academy onto a single site with all the operational and education benefits that this brings. Their knowledge of the funding arrangements, their experience of working with Schools and Academies, and their understanding of the PFI procurement process has been crucial to us entering the PFI arena with confidence and with our eyes open."
